Seaton Sluice, Northumberland

This project in Seaton Sluice, Northumberland was completed in July 2011. K2 Architects were commissioned to produce a contemporary single store extension that was both sustainable and innovative.

The steel framed structure, with an over sailing cantilevered roof takes maximum advantage of the rear garden and sea views beyond of Whitley bay. The extension roof is constructed with copper stand and seam cladding, with a sedum green roof to promote local wildlife and increase the thermal mass of the roof.

A series of fully retractable bi-folding doors across the entire width of the extension floods the living room and kitchen with natural light, creating a fresh, open plan space fit for 21st century.
Grey water harvesting, recyclable materials and under floor heating all help promote sustainable living.
