NuGen appointed K2 Architects to design a building of international significance in the heart of the Lake District National Park.
Mooreside Visitor Centre

The Park celebrates the relationship of the dramatic landscape of Cumbria with the story of nuclear energy, using water as the catalyst. The force of the energy that created our powerful mountain scenery, cascading waterfalls and even the colourful red coastline, parallels the power of natural energy.

The landscape and architectural design combine these stories. It creates sculptural landforms that represent the basics of nuclear power, the beauty of energetic cascades, the Cumbrian coastline, and the Lake District Fells.

This world-class visitor centre will embrace sustainable design, research and learning destination, as well as a valuable recreational resource for local people. Fusing architecture with the landscape will demonstrate NuGen’s commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, local community and health and safety, safeguarding a positive legacy for the future.

NuGen wants to deliver the very best possible project for the people of Cumbria and working with RIBA and K2 ensured that we attracted the very best design professionals to provide an iconic design and a positive legacy for years to come
