Disabilities Trust Supported Housing: Claughton, Wirral
This completed scheme creates six self-contained supported living tenancies for people recovering from brain injuries for Cosmopolitan Housing Association and The Disabilities Trust.
Three tenancies are at the ground floor and three at the first floor. The buildings’ footprint responds directly to the site layout, which is effectively a wedged shape configuration that tapers in towards the Northern edge of the site. The block which houses the four Southern flats cranks at an angle to reinforce and address the road elevation, whilst maximising the rear views of the site.
A simple pallet of materials has been proposed for the development, the introduction of timber for the porches and western elevation helps soften the façades and echoes the allotment gardens to the rear of the site. The use of curtain walling for the circulation core breaks up the façade and brickwork opening up the internal space, articulating the entrance for the first floor accommodation. |
