Crosby Village New Library is a classic example of the kind of project that local authorities are exploring in their drive to generate new incomes and regeneration opportunities. As lead designer we conducted a programme of stakeholder engagements across a range of public sector services. The outcome has been that Sefton Council are able to visualise and embrace a new way of providing public service delivery for health and wellbeing that breaks down boundaries between siloed public organisations. By bringing them together under the same roof they can deliver an exemplar social care service that will be greater than the sum of its parts as they currently stand. It will formally progress to RIBA Stage 4 in 2025, when it will be publicly marketed as the flagship for the regeneration of Crosby Village.
Operationally it is intended to deliver a newly relocated public library, amalgamate 3 local primary care general practices and provide supported living in 30 apartments. It will also be a gateway project for the regeneration of the wider village.
Mixed-use scheme aiming to establish Crosby Village Centre as the heart of the community, by improving the fabric and appearance of the village centre through development, introducing new uses and occupiers, and increasing footfall and activity within the centre.
